Deanery Merger Update

One of the key aims of the P&P framework is to consolidate our 13 existing deaneries into six new larger deaneries. Each new deanery will be better resourced with a full-time Area Dean, a half-time support officer and access to parish book-keeping, church buildings and HR support services.

We are delighted to confirm that, following positive feedback from the consultations, Bishop David made a Bishop’s Pastoral Order to unite the two deaneries of Warley & Edgbaston and also made a Bishop’s Pastoral Order to unite the three deaneries of Kings Norton, Moseley & Shirley.

The new deanery of Warley and Edgbaston and the new deanery of Kings Norton, Moseley and Shirley both came into being from 1 March 2020, with existing Area Deans until a full-time Area Dean is appointed. Deanery Lay Chairs and Deanery Secretaries will be confirmed at their first new deanery synods. All deanery mergers are now complete!

The Deanery of Aston and Sutton Coldfield came into being on 1 May 2019 and Revd Ann Richardson was licensed on 1 December 2019.
