Tuesday 1 September

The Revd Patrick Gerard, Bishop's Advisor for the Environment, invites us topray for the environment at the start of the month, remembering parish treasurers and others filling in the CofE’s new Energy Footprinting Tool with energy consumption data from 2019.  We pray that many parishes will submit their data so the statisticians can make a good estimate of the CofE’s Carbon Footprint.  We hold before God the CofE target of net zero emissions by 2030 and pray that we can each do our own small part, and that God can bring it about.


Wednesday 2 September

Sarah Smith, Diocesan Director of Education, invites us to pray for our school communities as they open their doors to welcome all children back this September. We give thanks for all the preparation that has taken place to make opening our schools as safe as we can. We pray for protection, and for reassurance and for the joy of being with friends once more. May this term be a blessing for all connected with our schools. Amen


Thursday 3 September

The Revd Lucille Arlidge, St Matthew with St Chad, Smethwick, invites us to pray: Lord we know you are with us as we journey through this deeply strange and perplexing time. Thank you for the signs along the way to reassure and guide us. Thank you for your presence, comfort and peace. Bless all who are called to and all who are sent to bring in your Kingdom. Amen


Friday 4 September

With The Revd Denise Jones, St Bernard’s Hamstead, we give thanks for the growth of the ministry team; for those feeling called by God to serve in new and exciting ways. We give thanks Father God that the time of lockdown has been a time of growth and outreach; a time of change, challenge and transformation. 'Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path‘ Psalm 119:105. Amen


Saturday 5 September

Guy Donegan-Cross, Director of Learning for Discipleship and Mission, invites us to pray, in the midst of change we keep our eyes fixed on the main thing, to be disciples of Christ. We give thanks and pray for our Way of Discipleship and Servant-Leadership modules beginning in Autumn.


Sunday 6 September

The congregation at The Ascension, Hall Green, give thanks for the reopening of their church and they thank the Lord that they were able to restart their public worship on Sunday 26 July. They have also restarted their midweek Holy Communion service and continue in prayer. Praise the Lord!


Monday 7 September

The National CofE offer this prayer for work and school: O God, the strength of my life, make known your will for me in this place: help me to discover friends among strangers, to meet opportunities and challenges eagerly, and to do my daily tasks in your name. Give me strength to overcome my worries, and preserve me in your safe keeping, through Jesus Christ our Lord.


Tuesday 8 September - The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Fr Barrie Scott, St John the Evangelist, Perry Barr, invites us to pray for all those who are preparing for ordination. Just as Mary replied to Gabriel with a resounding "yes", we give thanks for their "yes" to their calling, and pray for their future ministry following Christ and bringing his Gospel and Sacraments to the world. Through the same Christ our Lord, who died for love of us. Amen


Wednesday 9 September

The Revd Debbie Collins, St John the Evangelist, Perry Barr, invites us to pray: As we look to the trees that grow abundantly in the green spaces around Billesley, we give thanks to God for the kind and generous people reaching out in love, just like the branches reaching out. We give thanks to God for the trees showing us the stability we find in friendship and family and our faith. Help us, Lord Jesus, to grow, united in serving you and flourishing as a community.


Thursday 10 September

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Lord, help us to connect with those who may be in some form of emotional distress and let them know they are not alone. Amen


Friday 11 September

Chris Booth, HR Support Officer, CofEB, invites us to give thanks for the gift of music. We pray for all musicians, choirs, and singers as they start to assess a safe way of returning to performing following the changing to restrictions. Be with them Lord over the coming days and weeks as they sing your praises. Amen. 


Saturday 12 September

A journey of thousand miles begins with a single step. Lord please help us to understand and solve our problems by taking one step at a time.


Sunday 13 September

Helena, St John the Baptist, Harborne, invites us to pray: Loving Lord, thank you for our animal companions, our pets who give us so much joy, and even provide therapy in these unusual times. Please grant our pets health, peace and safety in loving homes. Please bless all people who work in animal sanctuaries and charities, protecting and healing your wonderful creatures. We thank you for St Francis of Assisi’s example of loving the world and all the animals within it.

And we thank you for our new puppy, River, and the joy she brings to my family. Amen


Monday 14 September

Nejib from The Ascension, Hall Green, invites us to pray for the ministry of their food bank: We give thanks for all the generous gifts of food donations we have been receiving, many time in large quantities, which have enabled us to be a source of blessing and help to many individuals and families during these challenging times. Please pray that we will continue to be able to help all these vulnerable and needy people.


Tuesday 15 September

Debbie, leader of Quest, for young people of Primary age, invites us to pray with our senses: with our eyes may we see the beauty of the world You created; with our sense of hearing we hear the joy of those around us as they laugh & sing; as we taste our food we give thanks to the Lord for feeding us; as the lockdown rules change we look forward to the ability to hug those most precious to us.


Wednesday 16 September

Lord Jesus Christ, we thank you for all the benefits you have won for us, for all the pains and insults you have borne for us. Most merciful redeemer, friend and brother, may we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day. Amen


Thursday 17 September

Lucille Arlidge, St Matthew with St Chad, Smethwick, invites us to pray: Glorious, wonderful, amazing God. We are your creatures and you call us to spend eternity with you. In this time of worldwide uncertainty we ask you to help and guide us as we try to serve as your body on earth. Amen


Friday 18 September

Almighty God, whose only Son has opened for us a new and living way into your presence: give us pure hearts and steadfast wills to worship you in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen


Saturday 19 September

The Revd Calvert Prentis, Diocesan Director of Ordinands and Vocational Development, invites us to pray for ordinations this weekend: Lord hear our prayer for your faithful people that in their vocation and ministry each may be an instrument of your love. And give to your servants, now to be ordained, the needful gifts of grace through our lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

The P&P Team invite us to pray for the Deanery of Warley & Edgbaston: 

Heavenly Father, We pray for the Deanery of Warley and Edgbaston, may Your work be done here. We pray for the existing Area Deans, Deb Buckley and Nick Tucker. May they continue to lead and minister to Your people during this transition. We pray for discernment in the recruitment process for the new Area Dean and that the successful candidate will have all he or she will need to lead Your people. We pray for all the schools, teachers and staff, as they return to school. May all the measurements that have been put in place be sufficient. We ask that you protect them, still any fear and give them Your peace. We pray for the community of the Deanery of Warley and Edgbaston. Lord let Your love, peace, and joy shine in and through all the people in this neighbourhood.
Heavenly Father, we lift these prayers to You, that we may see You at work in this deanery and Your will accomplished.

The P&P Team invite us to pray for the Deanery of Yardley & Solihull: 

Heavenly Father, we pray for the Deanery of Yardley and Solihull. May they continue to have sound foundation to grow Your people. We pray for the existing joint Area Deans, Andrew Bullock and Toby Crowe, may they continue to lead with Your grace and mercy. Sustain them as they minister in Your name. We pray for the interview process for the Area Dean vacancy. Lord we ask that You bring the right person forward to accomplish Your coming vision for this Deanery. We pray for the interview panel, for wisdom and discernment to identify Your will for the successful appointment. We pray for all of the teachers, pupils and staff as schools return. Lord bless them all and prepare their hearts as they work in this new way, give them tools and knowledge to make school a safe and positive community and place to work and grow. We pray for the community, we ask that You help us to meet their needs. Lord let us learn from the community making them feel welcomed and valued, and help us to help them see Your church as a focal point and asset in the community.
Heavenly Father, we lift these prayers to You, that we may see You at work in this deanery and Your will accomplished. Amen

Heavenly Father, we pray for the Deanery of Kings Norton, Moseley and Shirley, that Your wish for this area will be fulfilled. We pray for the existing Area Deans Rob Fieldson, David Warbrick and Duncan Hill-Brown. Lord, please continue to equip them with Your wisdom and their continued dedication, as they wait for the appointment of the new Area Dean. We pray for the recruitment and discernment process to appoint a new Area Dean. Lord, we ask the Holy Spirit to be our guide in selecting the appropriate candidate. Let them have a heart for the people and the willingness and confidence to make the necessary changes to carry out Your work. We pray for the incumbents, worshipping communities and the Lay representatives. Lord during this time of discernment, may they soak in Your Spirit and live off Your Word. Lord we pray for Your community, may they see Your hand at work. We pray especially for schools, teachers and staff in this deanery as they return to school. Let Your love, compassion, joy and peace be at the heart of everything.

Heavenly Father, we pray for the Deanery of Coleshill and Polesworth, that your light and your love will always shine through. We pray for the Area Dean, Louise Shaw, seeking first Your kingdom and trusting You for direction to carry out Your work. We pray for the incumbents, worshipping communities and Lay representatives of this deanery. May they continue to have faith and courage and shine as a light in Coleshill and Polesworth. We pray for the schools, teachers and staff in this deanery as they return to school. Replace any fear with Your joy and anxiety with Your peace. We pray for the community of this deanery. May they grow together in love, looking to You in hope.

Heavenly Father, we pray for the Deanery of Handsworth and Central, that we will see Your hand at work. We pray for the Area Dean, Douglas Machiridza, as he leads this deanery, through change. Lord, may he lead with Your wisdom and seek compassion and mercy always. We pray for the incumbents, worshipping communities and lay representatives for this deanery. Lord, as we move forward in a new way of working, we ask for your loving guidance and that we will be united in decisions. We pray for the schools, teachers and staff in this deanery as they return to school. May they trust in You when considering all the steps to take for working in this new way. We Pray for the communities of Handsworth and Central. May they all stand strong and in Your word and for Your glory.
Heavenly Father, we lift these prayers to You, that we may see You at work in this deanery and Your will accomplished. Amen


Saturday 26 September

P&P team invite us to pray for the Deanery of Aston & Sutton Coldfield: 

Heavenly Father, we pray for the Deanery of Aston and Sutton Coldfield, that we will see Your hand at work. We pray especially for the Area Dean, Ann Richardson, as she leads the Deanery through this transition. Lord equip her with Your wisdom, Your grace and Your strength. We pray for the incumbents, worshipping communities and lay representatives of this deanery. Lord, enable them to work together collectively and face all challenges with a servant heart. We pray especially for schools, teachers and staff in this deanery as they return to school. May they all find a way to meet the needs the of the pupils and move forward in a positive and safe way. We pray also for the communities in the Aston and Sutton Coldfield Deanery. May they see Your church at work and find You in these places of worship. Lord continue to fill their homes, with kindness, compassion, friendship and love.
Heavenly Father, we lift these prayers to You, that we may see You at work in this deanery and Your will accomplished. Amen


Sunday 27 September

The Revd Debbie Collins, Holy Cross, gives thanks for new growing connections with the two Secondary Schools in the parish of Billesley Common and the Community Art Display on the railings outside church to mark VE Day. Out of this bloomed a ‘Trees Project’, textiles reflecting on their time in lockdown, which Swanshurst Textile students are taking a lead. We also give thanks for Kings Heath Boys taking up the offer to engage with artwork in Autumn.
Living Lord Jesus, may we be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and always persistent in prayer as you weave our lives together. Amen


Monday 28 September

Please Lord, help us to think of others that are in need, and take steps to show them we care. Actions speak louder than words. Many charities are struggling at the moment, help us to consider our time to volunteer or donate where possible. Amen


Tuesday 29 September

Today is World Heart Day, an international campaign to spread awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention. Lord help us to keep our heart, body and mind in good working order, help us to get exercising and eating healthy. Amen


Wednesday 30 September

Lord Jesus Christ, you taught us to love our neighbour, and to care for those in need as if we were caring for you. In this time of anxiety, give us strength to comfort the fearful, to tend the sick, and to assure the isolated of our love, and Your love, for Your name’s sake. Amen
