Director of Finance and Operations (Full-Time)

Title of post:             Director of Finance and Operations

Hours of work:        37.5 per week.

Normal hours of work are Mon-Fri but flexibility is required to work evenings and weekends as required.

Salary:                        £32-38k

The Foundation seeks to recruit an operations manager with relevant experience in both operational and financial matters. The Director of Finance and Operations (DFO) will be a key member of the Leadership Team and will report to, and be line-managed by, the Principal. S/he will work collaboratively with colleagues to support the Principal and Governors in delivering a high quality, legally and regulatory compliant service to 450 adult students and 40 staff in this vibrant, complex, exciting and highly rewarding college.

The successful candidate is likely to be someone with experience in a managerial role in a school, FE or HE context. However, given the range of tasks required for this role in a small institution, we welcome applications also from people with extensive financial and management experience from outside education who can demonstrate their ability to transfer their skills, qualifications and experience to our setting.

Queen’s is a place that welcomes, fosters and promotes diversity, including ethnic diversity, gender diversity, diversity of views and practices, multiple forms of (dis)ability, and the welcome and inclusion of LGBTQI+ students and staff.  There is no GOR for support staff to be practicing Christians and support staff come from a variety of faith and non-faith backgrounds. Currently 29% of current support staff have a Black or Asian Background.

Due to the small size of the college there will be a high level of personal responsibility for the day to day delivery of the college’s smooth running and management, and the post holder will be expected to use initiative to anticipate requirements and deal with situations as they arise.

Key Areas of work include:

  • Budget setting and management including returns to companies’ house and charities house (with assistance of retained accountant)
  • Sharing responsibility for handling data collection for OfS and HESA
  • Reporting to leadership team and governors on financial, and operational performance, and being proactive in strategic planning for operational delivery and performance improvement
