You Can Help Feed Birmingham

9th May 2020

The impact of Covid-19 is that more people are experiencing food poverty. A coalition of organisations are working across Birmingham to get food to those who need it most but there is a shortage of food supplying these groups.

Thrive Together Birmingham, Near Neighbours and Edgbaston Foundation want to support these groups by encouraging food collections around Birmingham and Solihull.

The plan is very simple:

  • Street volunteers offer to act as a collection point for non-perishable food items, nappies and baby milk, toiletries, egg boxes and carrier bags in their neighbourhood.
  • They then take what they have collected to their local food distributer/foodbank or drop it to St. Mary and St. Ambrose Church car park on corner of Pershore Road/Raglan Road B5 7RA on a Friday 11am -3pm
  • If people can’t drop it off we will find volunteers to do pickups from those who need it.
  • Having assessed what we have gathered, food will be distributed on the following Tuesday to the food network partners

Are you able to join us by becoming a Food Champion? Could you publicise the idea to your friends and neighbours, create a collection point outside your home and then bring it what you have collected to the Friday collection point – we can provide someone to collect from your home if this is a problem.

Financial donations can be made here. All money will be spent on purchasing food.
