Proclaim Afresh: Christ Calling

On All Saints' Day, Saturday, 1st November, people involved in various ministries throughout the Church of England Birmingham gathered at St. Barnabas in Erdington to celebrate, give thanks, and find encouragement.

Over the past seven years, the Church of England Birmingham has responded in numerous ways to the continuing call of Christ in a changing world. As part of this journey, we have developed new pathways for licensed and authorised ministry that reflect our commitment to "growing churches at the heart of each community." Rooted in our missionary calling "to proclaim afresh the faith in each generation," these pathways reimagine ministry in ways that foster, sustain, and extend Christian presence, service, witness, and outreach in every place.

Hosted by Bishop Esther, the event featured input from Professor Anthony Reddie and provided an opportunity for God's people to gather and celebrate Christ’s ongoing call. Participants were renewed in heart and mind and equipped for faithful service in diverse and dynamic contexts through worship, scripture study, sharing wisdom, teaching, food, and friendship. Commissioned Children’s and Youth Workers, Farsi Catechists, those locally authorised to lead worship or preach, local ordained ministers, Growing Gifts Facilitators, recently admitted and licensed Readers, and Oversight Ministers all shared how they had seen the light of Christ shine through their ministries. One participant remarked, "Thank you so much for such an inspirational and thought-provoking day. It was wonderful to meet so many diverse people."
