On 31 August 2023, CofE Birmingham welcomed The Rt. Revd Dr Michael Volland, formally Principal of Ridley Hall, Cambridge, in succession to The Right Reverend David Urquhart, following his retirement from the office of CofE Birmingham’s Diocesan Bishop in October 2022. Bishop Michael was consecrated bishop in a service at Canterbury Cathedral, 30 November 2023, and will begin his public ministry in the CofE Birmingham in 2024.

The Rt. Revd. Anne Hollinghurst, Bishop of Aston , Suffragan Bishop CofE Birmingham, continues to serve as commissary bishop or ‘Acting Bishop of Birmingham’,  as authorised by the Archbishop of Canterbury, until the Bishop-Designate’s Installation in 2024.
