2024 Black History Month - CofEB Racial Justice Board

5th September 2024

During this month the Board is encouraging CofEB churches to ‘celebrate’ the impact and contribution of black people in the context of our church communities.

This year’s national theme is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’, and a comprehensive 2042 resource pack can be download from the Black History Month website.

The Board have two dates when they wish to invite people to convene as a diocese to mark the 2024 BHM, through participating in Walks of Witness, starting out from various points across the diocese.

The first Walk is to be held on Sunday 13 October,
with its end point at Birmingham Cathedral, for the 15:30 Choral Evensong honouring the BHM.

A celebration service is to be held on Sunday 26 October, at 4pm
at St Martin’s in the Bullring, and is being hosted by the Racial Justice Reference group.

Please encourage participation in both these events, as appropriate. The CofEB Racial Justice Board are seeking to emphasize that BHM is not just something for these two days but is ongoing during the month. Consequently, rather than competing events, these Walks are individual dedicated opportunities, within the BMH programme.

Further information and resources for the 2024 Black History Month to follow.

With our prayers and encouragement,

CofEB Racial Justice Board

West Midlands Regional Racial Justice Unit -  Welcoming Service

The West Midlands Regional Racial Justice Welcoming Service is to be held at Coventry Cathedral on Sunday 6 October 2024, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm as part of the Cathedral's BHM service. All are welcome.

This service marks a pivotal moment in the collaboration on the West Midlands dioceses, as the newly formed West Midlands Regional Racial Justice team begin working across the dioceses collective regions, seeking and promoting racial justice across the region.

The service will feature music based worship led by the Cathedral Choir, the Blue Coat School Choir, and the Kingdom Gospel Singers. A special highlight will be Mobu E's performance of Okaka'm Okaka'm and Nso ka Jehovah di (Mighty God and Holy One).
