We are seeking a committed and flexible individual to join our team as a Part-Time Verger, supporting the worship and wider ministry of our church.
Hours:
- Core hours: 4 hours per week, worked across 2 days
- Additional hours: As required to complete irregular role tasks and for baptisms, funerals, weddings, and special services (with notice) . Estimated an average of 2 hours per week over a 12-month period
Key Responsibilities:
- Open and prepare the church for services and events, including setting up liturgical items
- Assist clergy and visiting ministers during baptism, wedding and funeral services
- Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the church
- Act as designated first‐aid person with oversight of first aid, accident and other Health and Safety requirements
- Maintain the inventory of Church contents and maintain effective security of the Church
- Provide a welcoming presence to all visitors
- Support occasional events such as concerts or other church hires
The ideal candidate will:
- Be respectful of the church’s worship and traditions
- Be comfortable with manual tasks
- Have good interpersonal skills and a calm, reliable presence
- Be willing to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as needed
- A committed and reliable individual with a servant-hearted approach to ministry.
- A practical and organised team player with attention to detail

Hourly Rate: £12.50
