The Revd Phelim O’Hare has been appointed as Archdeacon of Aston. Phelim currently ministers in the CofE Birmingham as the Area Dean of Kings Norton, Moseley & Shirley.
Bishop Michael writes,
‘I am delighted that Phelim has agreed to serve as Archdeacon of Aston. The members of the appointment panel were impressed with his passion for mission, energy, deep faith in Jesus Christ and his clearly articulated sense of God's call to the role. Phelim has served with distinction as Area Dean of Kings Norton, Moseley and Shirley and Church of England Birmingham will be greatly blessed by his ministry as Archdeacon of Aston. Please pray for Phelim and his family as they prepare to move and as Phelim takes up his new responsibilities later this year.’
Speaking on his appointment, Revd Phelim said,
“I feel incredibly honored to be invited to take on this new role as Archdeacon of Aston. Whilst I will be sad to leave Kings Norton, Moseley and Shirley and the many friends we’ve made there, I’m looking forward to getting to know the people and parishes of the Archdeaconry of Aston and am thrilled to be called to serve in this way.”
Phelim is originally from the border town of Newry in Northern Ireland, and grew up during the troubles. He began his training for the Roman Catholic priesthood, then discerned a call to be married and went on to serve in the Church in Wales. Phelim is married to Annette, and they have two teenage boys. They moved to Birmingham in 2021 when Phelim took up the role of Area Dean of Kings Norton, Moseley and Shirley. In his spare time Phelim enjoys road cycling and especially the challenge of long distance rides and looks forward one day to completing the cycling tour of the Welsh and English Cathedrals. He is also a keen golfer and has represented the Church of England and Church in Wales.
We look forward to welcoming Phelim into this new role.
