New Bishop's Advisor for Women's Ministry announced

After seven years of faithful service as Bishop's Advisor for Women's Ministry, the Revd Canon Becky Stephens, has discerned that it is the right time to lay down this responsibility. Bishop Michael has invited the Revd Canon Louise Shaw, currently Area Dean of Coleshill and Polesworth to succeed Becky in undertaking this important role. Louise will begin immediately.

Bishop Michael said,

'Becky has offered exemplary service as advisor for women's ministry and I have been personally blessed and encouraged by her ministry. Becky's wisdom and experience and her care and concern for the women of Church of England Birmingham have been a great gift and continue to be hugely valued. Becky has served with distinction and on behalf of the whole diocese, I thank her warmly. I am delighted that, after prayerful consideration, Louise has agreed to take on this important role, following on from the excellent work undertaken by Becky. Louise is well known and loved in the diocese and her love, wisdom and pastoral gifts will be a gift to those she will support and encourage as Bishop's Advisor for Women's Ministry. We give great thanks to God for Becky and Louise and hold them both in our prayers as they attend to this period of transition.’

Revd Canon Becky Stephens said,

‘It has been a real privilege to serve the ordained women of Birmingham whilst advising Bishop David, Bishop Anne and Bishop Michael. I have seen huge change in the last seven years, and there is still much important work to be done. Thank you to all friends and colleagues who have trusted me and worked alongside me to enable change and progress. We are held in very safe hands as Louise takes us into this next phase.’

Revd Canon Louise Shaw said,

‘Becky has been an inspiring and encouraging Bishop's Advisor for Women's Ministry and a fabulous role model. I am looking forward to taking up this new role, knowing that I won't be on my own, but will have God's help and the support of great colleagues.'
